In my town, where the local politicians have for years been screwing things up locally every bit as bad as the national politicians have been screwing up this country, any time anybody tries to run against them the politicians say in the compaigns that they are best qualified to deal with the city's current problems because of their many years of experience. When it was THEM in their many years of experience who CREATED the city's current problems! Yet they manage to fool the voting sheep into re-electing them year after year to go on doing more and more of the same damage. And no matter how bad things get screwed up, and how much they are bankrupting the city, the citizens refuse to open their eyes and see that the emperor has no clothes.
